Faux Tin Bunny

Faux Tin Bunny

Faux Tin Easter Bunny Craft with Big Vintage Charm!

Looking for a fun, unique Easter craft that looks like it came straight from an antique market? Let me introduce you to one of our absolute favorites right now… Faux Tin Easter Bunnies!

These adorable bunnies have that aged metal, embossed tin look—but surprise… they’re made with simple materials and a few easy techniques. Perfect for spring decorating, gift-making, or hosting your own craft night! This technique is great to use on blocks, or eggs but the bunny shape is my favorite.

  • Supplies: Wooden bunny cutout, Paint, Antiquing Wax, plastic adhesive tiles
  • Chip brush, Black buttons or googly eyes, Small pink wooden heart nose
  • Twine for whiskers, Ribbon, lace, and twine for bow. Small tag and carrot embellishments
  • Hot glue gun, String for hanger

Steps

  1. Trace then cut the faux tile using the bunny as a stencil. Line up on a diagonal to the top of the bunny head and trace bunny, sticky paper side down. Cut out the bunny slightly bigger. Then use the edge scraps to trace and cut the tile to match the ears. If you have extra left over tin, then trace the egg and cut for practice piece.  Hot glue or using craft glue stick onto your bunny shape.

2. Paint the entire bunny with a light base coat in white, cream, or pale grey. Let dry.

  • HOLD OFF THIS STEP AND STEP 5 UNTIL COMPLETLY DRY. To Create the faux tin look dry brush lightly with antique wax. Lightly brush over the raised pattern and edges with finger or small brush. This gives it that aged metal look.

5. Distress it softly and a little extra dry brushing in random spots so it looks worn and vintage, like old pressed tin.

WHILE WAITING FOR BUNNY TO DRY

6. Using markers paint the carrots, eyes, Tag and heart nose. Distress as you wish.

  • For the nose peel one circle and stick at the top of the heart inside then peel and stick pink nose on top. The heart will be upside down for the nose. This leaves space for the whiskers to be glued inside. Then cut 3 short pieces of twine and glue them behind the nose for whiskers.
  • Paint 2 small black eyes, add a touch of white to add life to the eyes.
  • Tie together ribbon, lace, and twine into a soft bow. Glue it around the bunny’s neck
  • Add embellishments. Attach the bunny bait tag and small carrot accents to the bow for a sweet spring touch.

11.Attach jute or string to the back with sticky rectangle or top so the bunny can hang.

If you want extra protection, spray or brush on a matte sealer. Indoors fine as is.

Hang and enjoy - Display on a mirror, hook, wreath, or spring vignette.

Hope you enjoy making a faux tin project.  It's super easy and fun.
